If you are planning on a trip this summer, why not try Vienna. Located at the foothills of the Alps along the banks of the serenely grand Danube River, the Austrian capital city is a beautiful, lively and charming getaway that visitors will surely find irresistible.

The progressive city still has many relics of its ancient past: medieval palaces and castles; centuries-old churches; very old museums and theaters; and the Schönbrunn Zoo, the oldest zoo in the world. If you are a history aficionado, you would certainly find these places interesting and enlightening, as these hold significant relics and curios.

Interest of architecture buffs would be piqued by the graceful art-nouveau buildings scattered throughout the city, excellent reminders of the artistic and intellectual flowering in the city at the turn of the 19th century.

Music plays an important part in Viennese life. Icons such as Beethoven and Mozart once lived and created some of their immortal compositions there, so it is no wonder that opera and classical music are typical features in the life of residents. Classical music lovers will therefore be in their elements when they get to experience first-hand the classic works of the greatest musical composers in such venerable places such as the Wiener Musikverein and the Wiener Konzerthaus. Or one may be able to catch a liturgical performance of the famed Vienna Boys Choir in the ancient St. Stephen’s Cathedral. For music lovers with morbid inclinations, visiting the graves of Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert and Schoenberg in Vienna may just be the perfect way to get acquainted with these musical greats.

When night comes, one may choose to while away time quietly in the cafes scattered throughout the city, or join the party crowd in the many nightclubs, bars and dance centers in the Inner Stadt - Vienna offers a varied fare that will suit everyone’s tastes. Enjoy the Viennese pastries and other native cuisine while getting your caffeine boost in the lavish cafes inside the Ringstrasse or in the quaint and charming ones just outside. Or go to the so-called Bermuda Triangle to get some adrenaline boosting - and eardrums-shattering, experience in the many bars and dance complexes.

To see the many sights offered by the city, one may choose to join group tours or be more adventurous and explore the city on his own. Either way, be sure to include the must-see places listed in most travel brochures in your itinerary - these are interesting places you really can’t afford to miss. Getting to these destinations will not be a problem either, as numerous ways are available: railway, bus, bicycle or the challenging Segway ride.

Tired of visiting the historical sites? There are many delightful activities you can do while in Vienna. Visit Prater Park and ride the gigantic Riesenrad Ferris wheel or bask under the goofy statues. Do some souvenir shopping at the trendy Mariahilfer Strasse where many shops offer fashionable clothes, jewelry and accessories. Play handicap-free golf at the Club Danube Golf-Wien, or do some serious snowboarding in the skiing resorts at the outskirts of the city. There are just endless ways to make your vacation in Vienna a truly memorable one.
