Atlanta is the capital city and largest city of Georgia with about 132 square miles. Atlanta has a population of over 650000 but still stands to be one of the United States’ fastest growing cities. Atlanta is truly a unique place to visit as it is a crossroads of the historical past and the modern present. It is not an uncommon sight to see beautiful, historical places alongside towering and very postmodern skyscrapers. Not only that, Atlanta has been often cited as one of the best places to live in the United States. So if you are just going for a business meeting or may be planning a trip in Atlanta, why not try the following incredible tourist destinations Atlanta can offer.

One of the most popular and most visited places in Atlanta is the Centennial Olympic Park. It has 21 acres of pavilions, fountains, amphitheaters and water gardens to boast of and it also serves as a memorial to the 1996 Olympic Games that were held in Atlanta. The Centennial Olympic Park would often host many fun filled events such as concerts and exhibits. The King Center is also one of those places that you must see when you get to Atlanta. The King Center is the place that commemorates Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life. You can watch a short video presentation of the life of the great civil rights activist as well as see some exhibits about the evolution of civil rights. The King Center also offers various community service programs in keeping with Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream of a ‘beloved community’. Since you are in the area why not go across the street from the King Center and see the historical Ebenezer Baptist Church.

On the other hand, right across the Centennial Olympic Park is the CNN Studios where every Atlanta visitor should also see. CNN was first established in 1980 by the media mogul Ted Turner. It was the first every live, twenty four hour world news network. The CNN Studios tour is actually quite interesting as the visitors get to see how the news is being broadcasted as well as how the news is being delivered behind the scenes. The CNN Studio tour is quite popular so a reservation beforehand would be a great way to go for any visitor.

Another important place to visit is the Oakland Cemetery. Oakland Cemetery is the most ancient cemetery Atlanta has to offer. It is not only a place where people bury their dead; it is also a visual representation of Atlanta’s past. It has been said to be an outdoor museum with Victorian statues and different persons that are buried. The Oakland Cemetery is a place where not only the paupers and local villagers are buried. Even the popular and the powerful are buried in the Oakland Cemetery including the famous author of “Gone with the Wind” Margaret Mitchell, Mayor Maynard Jackson, and Confederate soldiers, among others. The Oakland Cemetery is still being used as a cemetery and burial place up to this day.
